Back Range Of Motion Instrument

BROM II

The BROM takes only minutes to make objective and repeatable measurements.  The Rotation/Lateral Unit is designed so the examiner holds the rib cage for positive tracking of rotation and lateral flexion movements.  The inclonometers are fluid damped to permit fast, accurate readings without waiting for oscillations to damp out.

Lumbar Flexion/Extension

The BROM II measures the true spine segment flexion between two points.  Dual inclinometers measure the spine tangent flexion at the upper measuring point.

The BROM has set the standard for measuring lumbar and thoracic flexion/extension,  lateral flexion and rotation range of motion measurements.  The Flexion/Extension Unit is easily positioned on the sacrum eliminating errors due to hip movements during measurements.  The unit is secured to the body by hook and loop straps freeing an examiners hand for guiding the patient during measurements.

Lumber Lateral Flexion

The BROM uses a magnetic meter for rotation measurements that measures to a reference placed on the sacrum allowing measurements to be made with the trunk in the preferred vertical position.  An added advantage of this method is that unwanted hip movement is eliminated.

Rotation

Lateral Flexion

The BROM is the only instrument that can measure lumbar rotation accurately.

BROM Basic

The BROM Basic contains the BROM rotation lateral unit plus two universal inclinometers.  To receive the added benifits of the flexion/extention unit, please refer to the BROM II.

PALpation Meter

PALM

The Objective Way to do Skeletal Alignment Evaluations

The PALM combines the ease and proprioceptive advantages of palpation with the objectivity and reliability of caliper and inclinometer measurements.

  • The caliper determines the distance in centimeters between the two palpating fingers.

  • The inclinometer determines the inclination in degrees between the two palpating fingers.

A unique slide rule calculator gives you the height discrepancy between the two landmarks palpated in both centimeters and inches

A Typical Use

Differentiating between a Functional and a Structural Short Leg.

The PALM will help you differentiate what part of the leg length inequality is structural and what part is functional.

  • Measurement of the iliac crest heights in the standing position determines if there is a relative height difference.

  •  Measurement of the iliac crests relative heights in the seated position removes height discrepencies due to lower extremity asymetrics.

Other Uses

Determining height discrepancies at landmarks.

The PALM allows you to determine skeletal asymmetry and then locate the point of asymmetry by making measurements at various landmarks like:

  • Medial Malleoli

  • Fibular Heads

  • AC Joints

  • Mastoid Processes

  • Gluteal Folds

The PALM Caliper can also determine chest cavity expansion and absolute bone length.

Features

One of three types of palpation tips can be selected depending on the

 shape and location of landmarks.

  • Pointed tips for palpation of visual landmarks or marks applied to the skin.

  • L tips for palpation of bony ledges.

  • O tips for palpation of landmarks directly with finger tips.

The PALM is easy to use because the large caliper dial makes length measurements easy and the fluid damped inclinometer allows quick and accurate angle measurements.
